1. "How to live?" Function
instead of ostentation – this was the war-cry of the Deutscher Werkbund
from its foundation until the 1960s agitating against Victorian pomp
and period furniture, the kidney table and the bag lamp. The steel pipe
seat, the Braun device and the Arzberg pot were not just guarantors for
functional dwelling, but also became symbols for a better life.
2. 100 years of plastic material We are living in a world full of plastic. Plastic material has shaped the 20th century and changed people’s everyday life. A hundred years ago the first synthetic material came onto the market. Its applications and possibilities made the Deutscher Werkbund change its mind. By selecting objects from the permanent collection Dr. Heide Rezepa-Zabel illustrates the history and application of plastic material.
3. Deutscher Werkbund and product culture: Must have! This
guided tour explores the relationship between package, promise and
quality of brand products. It tells the history and various stories
about the development of modern product culture and the role of the
Deutscher Werkbund as a propagator of "good form".
FOR VISUALLY HANDICAPPED AND BLIND PERSONS
The Werkbundarchiv - Museum der Dinge offers a guided tour in the
„open storage“ of the museum. This tour combines an introduction to the
permanent collection and the „tactile“ reception of selected objects.
Participants are invited to take part in the discussion about the
standards established by the Deutscher Werkbund, for example
functionality, good design and sustainability. The tour will be dealing
with the question of normative design of form and contradictionary
demands towards contemporary object and consumer world in particular.
tours on request, also apart from opening hours, max. 8 persons + accompanying persons, about 90 minutes, 45 € all inclusive
